Mosquito Control Services in Toronto
Backyard Fogging
Our ULV (ultra-low volume) fogging service disperses a Health Canada–registered adulticide through your backyard, treating trees, shrubs, and all resting sites. Fogging delivers immediate knockdown of adult mosquito populations and is ideal for events, cottage preparation, or emergency relief.
Backyard FoggingLarvicide Treatment
Larvicide targets mosquito larvae in standing water before they become biting adults. Bugsway applies Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis (Bti) — a naturally derived larvicide — to water features, drainage areas, ditches, and other breeding sites. Safe for fish, birds, and beneficial insects.
Larvicide TreatmentMosquito Barrier Spray
Our barrier spray program applies a residual insecticide to the perimeter foliage, tree lines, and vegetation edges where mosquitoes rest during the day. Each treatment provides 3–4 weeks of protection. Seasonal programs of 4–5 applications deliver consistent coverage throughout Toronto's mosquito season.

"We back onto the ravine and mosquitoes made our backyard unusable every summer. After our first Bugsway fogging, the difference was night and day — literally. We sat outside until 10pm that same evening. We signed up for the seasonal package and haven't looked back."

Mosquito Season in Toronto: When Treatment Matters Most
Mosquito season in the GTA begins when average temperatures consistently exceed 10°C — typically late April or early May. The peak biting season runs June through August, with the most intense activity on warm, humid evenings with low wind. Female mosquitoes require a blood meal to develop eggs and can fly 1-3km from their breeding site — meaning a neighbour’s unmaintained pond or a drainage ditch on an adjacent property can be the source of mosquito pressure in your yard. Toronto’s urban ravine system provides extensive mosquito habitat along creek corridors in North York, East York, and Scarborough.
West Nile Virus risk in the GTA peaks during late July and August, when temperatures have been elevated long enough to accelerate viral incubation in the mosquito vector. Toronto Public Health conducts surveillance and larviciding in public spaces, but private residential properties — particularly those with ornamental water features, dense vegetation, and shaded areas — require separate treatment to reduce personal exposure risk. Starting treatment in late May establishes suppression before the peak season begins.
Mosquito-Free Backyard: Treatment Plus Source Reduction
The most effective mosquito control strategy combines adult knockdown (barrier spray on vegetation where mosquitoes rest) with larval source management (treating or eliminating standing water where mosquitoes breed). Adult barrier spray alone provides excellent short-term knockdown but does not prevent re-colonization from nearby breeding sites. Eliminating or treating standing water removes the next generation of mosquitoes before they become biting adults. Simple source reduction steps — emptying bird baths every 3-4 days, keeping eavestroughs clear, and removing items that hold water — can eliminate 80% of breeding sites on a typical residential lot.
For standing water that cannot be drained — ornamental ponds, rain barrels, stormwater features — biological larvicide (Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis, Bti) provides season-long control with weekly or bi-weekly application. Bti targets only mosquito and blackfly larvae and is completely safe for fish, amphibians, birds, and beneficial insects. Bugsway applies Bti as part of our comprehensive mosquito program and can provide guidance on self-application for persistent water features between professional visits.
